How to Host a Live Auction Draft

There is a lot more than what meets the idea to successfully hosting a live auction draft. It might seem like a lot of work to put together, but trust me, it’s worth it! This list is the product of 8 years of live auction drafting and 12 years of live drafting experience.

Reserve the Time Way In Advance

The keyword being live. To get a group of 10-12 together at the same place at the same time, you need to finalize a time and place at least 2 months out.

A 10+ Person Table

You can do it with people all over the place, separate tables, couches and on the floor, but ideally you have everyone at the same table. First and foremost no one is at a disadvatage for hearing or being heard. Another advantage it brings, is a poker-like aspect where people can read the expressions of others.

Have a Pre-Determined Halftime

Live auctions tend to take a really long time. We’ve found that if you take the roster size and divide it in half and then stop after that many rounds of nominations, everyone feels better towards the end of the draft.
